Mom Allegedly Threatens Little League Official Because Her Son Didn't Make the Team
Filed under: In The News
Talk about a parent totally striking out.
Janet Chiauzzi, an East Meadow, N.Y. mom, has been arrested and charged with stalking, falsely reporting an incident, endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated harassment, allegedly because her son did not make a summer baseball travel team, "Today" reports.
Chiauzzi allegedly threatened the Little League official she deemed responsible, sending letters to his kids' school that accused him of physical and verbal abuse, according to the news show, and even addressed the official's own young son.
"If something happens to your dad or mom, or your sister, you can blame your dad for not taking these threats seriously," she allegedly wrote.
The charges of abuse against the man were investigated and dismissed, "Today" reports.
In a letter to the official, Chiauzzi allegedly threatens the man's family, the news show adds.
"I know where your wife works ... I know where your daughter goes to school and your son's normal every day routine. ... Just tell your wife and kids to watch themselves, especially at night. I don't care what it takes, I'm going to make your life and your family's life a living hell. These are not just words and empty threats," she allegedly wrote.
"Today" reports Chiauzzi's attorney calls the allegations "shocking" and he states the woman is a "PTA mom" and that she is not guilty.
"This is a very thought-through, premeditated, elongated process that went on, and, in a way, I find that to be more disturbing," psychologist Gail Saltz tells "Today."

Joel said...I am sure that, in her view, she is the victim here. It will never stop and she will stalk this many for the rest of this life, maybe not as bad as she did recently but this behavior is not normal nor just someone upset and acting out. She has a persecution complex.

Hi Debbie said...As a Mom of a previous baseball player and wife of an All Star team coach I can say these people actually think their kids are going into the big leagues!! I even have over reacted to plays and umpire decisions over the years but then I realized just how rediculous it all is.............competition can be close to manic but this woman has more problems than just this one incident.........she is one of those that could escalate into serious bodily harm...... I hope she gets help and medicated she needs it...........and I agree with the post that our children are getting a bad messege here

Lisa said...Kids' sports are so political these days. It happens all the time---good kids get cut because they didn't know the right people. HOWEVER, it's better to teach your kids that life isn't always fair. And anyway, sometimes when one door closes, an even better door opens! (Sounds cliche', but we've lived that life and my son came out the better, happier person because of it. He now says he wouldn't have changed a thing to get where he is today.

cgalbanese said...I'm not saying she's not crazy and deserves to go to jail, because she does, but I wonder how much money she's spent on top of the line gear and private lessons with the trainer telling her "he will definitely make the team" , "best prospect I've seen in years", "he'll make all county".
I was shopping in Modells one time and actually heard a mom on a cell phone SCREAMING at I would assume her son's AAU coach that her son better make the team because she already bought him the $150 basketball sneakers.

DAN BRINKLEY said...This is so much crap. Men stock their Ex wifes and girl friends beat them, threaten to kill them. Then the law does nothing until the guy kills his wife, ex wife, his girl friend or his ex girl friend. Come on if she going to jail then every man that hits his wife or threatens her needs jail time.

C.B. said...My fiance played little league ball in Connecticut growing up and was a very good first baseman. When he tried out for his freshman year at a school in Mayport, FL the coach wouldn't let him make the team because he hadn't played American Legion Ball down there. It is sad but true that talent doesn't always equal the reason why you don't make a ball team. He didn't play ALB BECAUSE his mom didn't have the money for him to do it. I guess that was a good first lesson for him in bias and politics at play in his young life, but I wouldn't say that the lack of talent was why this child didn't make the little league team, either. It is scary, though, that this type of action may have been deemed appropriate by the mother. Why do parents never seem to get how their actions may be affecting their child/teaching bad lessons to them in these situations?????

mishyoung said...What is this "PTA mom" crap? All it takes to join a PTA is lots of free time and an application. It requires no interview process, proper screenings or criminal background checks, so why do we act as if someone's involvement in a PTA in suburbia elevates them to some sort of superior, moral standing within a community?
If a "PTA dad" (and they exist too) wrote those letters threatening someone else's family, he'd be arrested, no questions asked. We can't make excuses for this type of behavior just because she's a woman.
Unfortunately, this is a very sad, sick woman who needs help, and she was probably going to snap over something--it just happened to be this. Either way, her family's name and reputation is now ruined--her poor children will be shunned in school and probably bullied. Poor things.
