Sisters Give Birth to Babies in Same Hospital On Same Day
Filed under: In The News, Weird But True

The Orange County Register reports Mattson's sister, Rachel McDaniel, 26, gave birth to Grayson William at 1:01 p.m. July 18 in a Laguna Hills, Calif., hospital. The pregnant Mattson, present for her nephew's birth, was due in a few weeks.
But, just a few minutes later, Mattson felt contractions as she ate lunch at an In-N-Out Burger near the hospital with her parents, according to the newspaper. She returned to the hospital and delivered Sage Marie at 11:47 p.m.
Enoch Fernando, father to the sisters, doesn't seem too surprised.
"They've always done everything together," he tells the Register of his daughters who are 19 months apart.
But the feat of two sisters giving birth in the same hospital in the same day is rare. According the newspaper, nurses at Saddleback Memorial can't remember it happening before.
And, in a total moment of pure cuteness, when the cousins met for the fist time as they were being discharged July 20, Grayson clasped on to Sage's itty bitty hand, the Register reports.
"They're pretty much twins – just with different moms," Mattson tells the newspaper.

Terri said...What are the odds??? I gave birth to my son, then my sister came in just a few hours later and gave birth to her daughter. Same hospital, same doctor....my mother was also in the same hospital at that time - with the same doctor - for other medical treatment. The new cousins were put side by side in the nursery with a sign that told everyone they were cousins. It made the local paper...

We had the same doctor and he thought that she was going to be early...but two weeks after my due date I went into labor. After two hours of labor the doctor came in and told me that Lisa was in labor and on her way to the hospital. We both had our babies on the same day. Now 31 years later my daughter was expecting her second child Her best friend was also expecting her second child. They had the same doctor and they both went into labor and had their babies on the same day.

She thought one her her daughters had given birth to twins. Alas she realized that each of her daughters had a baby. This "twin" will be 50 (yikes) next month. ;)

Laura said...My sister and I gave birth to our sons in January 1990. 19 minutes apart, in the same hospital, same doctors, and stayed in the same room! What a wonderful memory that is. I guess these things happen more often than we think. Congrats to the new Mom"s!

I was watching her daughter while she went to give birth and dammit, I went to my Dr. appt. later on and the Dr. said he was going to 'take' my son right then and their. My son was atually born 3 months early. A third sister was running back and forth from one hospital to the other with the video camera. Memories!!..this was 22 yrs. ago.
