Boy, 12, Wins Fashion Contest, Hopes to Dress Michelle Obama

First lady Michelle Obama isn't afraid to wear designs by relatively unknown, young designers. But a gown by a 12-year-old boy? Now, that would be a first.
NBC reports Texas tween Grant Mower bested design students in college and high school in his home state to win a contest that could lead to Obama wearing his design during a Utah fund-raising event. He'll travel to Utah for the chance to schedule a fitting with the first lady, the network adds.
"First, I was just drawing little girls stuff, then I came up to where I am now watching Chanel shows and you know sort of a growth in fashion and maturity," Grant, who made his first dress out of newspaper, tells NBC.
Grant's mom, Moanna Mower, tells the network her son has faced bullying for designing clothes.
"He would look for validation, and not get it, so he'd come home from school and it would take him three hours for me to just get him back," Moanna Mower tells NBC. "And out of desperation I would do things like, 'Do you want to watch a Versace fashion show?' "

Designer Biography: Prabal Gurung

After a two year stint with Cynthia Rowley's design team, he was appointed design director at Bill Blass. After five years, he left to start his own label in 2009. AZBROKER said...Poor Kid! What a contest to win. How's he going to design anything, aside from a tent, to cover that huge rear deck that FLOTUS Mooooochelle walks around with? He'll need something that will hold two side view mirrors and a flashing strob light to warn others when she's backing up or making a turn.

rkeeneth said...Michelle O. was forced to surrender her law license. She can't practice law even if she wanted to. Look it up. Same for him. He was being investigated in 2008 for lying on his bar application and he surrendered his license before he was asked. Look it up. Next time you have an idol, make sure they are worthy.

biteme said...I don't think she should have a "designer". It's bad enough we have to pay taxes to support her dumb ass husband. I see nowhere in the constitution or anywhere else that as "first lady", that she is entitled to anything. Give her an assistant and a pillow next to dumb ass and let her on her own.

While we're at it, let's make the politicians furlough their salaries for a couple months - see how they like it! I bet the national debt goes down quite a bit from those lousy folks that we have elected that can't even come to a decision!
