Whether you're expecting twins, or you have two stroller-sized children of different ages, a double stroller is a must for most parents. But, with so many styles on the market, shopping for a set of wheels for your kids can be a bit overwhelming. These strollers aren't cheap, so you better get one you love.

Here's a look at some popular options, and pros and cons of each.

	Side-by-side:

Pros: They're pretty easy to maneuver, unless you have to go through narrow doorways. Kids sit next to each other, so older kids can play and won't fight over who gets to sit in the front (or back).

Cons: Most side-by-sides can't hold infant car seats, and if your children are prone to fighting, you might not want them sitting so close to each other. If your children are of different weights, it may be tougher to steer one of these. They also take up a bit more room when folded.

Front-to-back (tandem):

Pros: Getting through doorways is easier than with a side-by-side, and, when folded, they don't take up too much room. Many tandems hold two infants in car seats or an infant and a toddler. They also have stadium seating, so the child in the back can see over the other child's head.

Cons: They can be heavy, and turns aren't easy.

Jogger:

Pros: They're often lightweight and good for rougher surfaces. Also, as the name suggests, you can use it while running or jogging.

Cons: Many joggers aren't recommended for newborns, as they offer no head support, and they're a bit bulky for the mall or other crowded spots. You'll likely need a traditional stroller in addition to the jogging stroller.

Sit and stand:

Pros: Also called a Stand-On, these strollers allow a bigger child to sit or stand on the back step and are great if you have a newborn and an older child.

Cons: Your toddler might drive you crazy hopping on and off the back.

When there's a massive recall, everyone hears about it, but many recalls don't make the news. However, since small children are famous for finding ways to make toys and even seemingly-harmless household objects dangerous, parents need to know about recalls.

So, how do you stay informed? You can always check out the latest recalls at ParentDish, or visit recalls.gov, where you'll find the most recent recalls ordered by major federal agencies, including the Food and Drug Administration, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. You also can sign up with each agency to receive an e-mail whenever there's a recall.

The CPSC is the group that issues the most recalls for children's products. On its site, you can search by recall date, product type (crib, stroller, sippy cup) and company or country in which it was made. Click on a recall and you'll be directed to more information, such as a press release that includes company contact information.

The CPSC also has a recall hotline. Call 800-638-2772 to get more information about a recall, to find out how to get a product that's been recalled, fixed or how to return it.

Want to report a product that you think is especially dangerous? You can use the CPSC hotline or go online to report an injury or unsafe product.

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Subscribe to the ParentDish Newsletter Now!

Choosing a creative, cute, but not too expensive -- or labor-intensive -- Halloween costume can be a bit of a chore. And for moms of multiples, the challenge is doubled, tripled, quadrupled or more.

Not sure how to dress your brood for Halloween? Take inspiration from these creative ideas:

1. Got a sense of humor? Dress them up as mom's constant companions, the washer, dryer and laundry basket.

2. Pick any animal (duck, cat, monkey, bunny, etc.), double it and you've got a Noah's Ark-themed Halloween.

3. Thing 1 and Thing 2 from Dr. Seuss's "The Cat in the Hat" are classic favorites. You could also make your own costumes with red sweatsuits and blue wigs. Then, draw "Thing 1" and "Thing 2" on white felt and glue to the shirts.

4. Whether you have two, three, four or more kids, you can dress them as any of the characters from "The Wizard of Oz," including Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Wicked Witch, Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion.

5. Yeah, your kids may be too young to know who these two are, but what "Flinstones"-loving mom could resist these Pebbles and Bamm Bamm costumes?

6. Can't get your kids away from their video games? Maybe these Nintendo Mario and Luigi get-ups will help.

7. If you're not sick of the peas in a pod analogy yet, dress your baby in these adorable costumes.

8. For the mini-foodie, ketchup and mustard are an easy solution (for triplets or quads, add a burger and hot dog!)

9. In honor of "Toy Story 3," Buzz Lightyear (with wings and goggles that light up) and Woody are sure to please.

10. Dress your sugary-sweet babies as Peeps.

Prefer to make your own costume? Natalie Stemp, creative director of Calliope and a former event planner, suggests these unique ideas: Box of cupcakes, assorted crayons, the three blind mice, the three billy goats gruff or a school of fish.

Got multiples? How will you be dressing them for Halloween?
Amazing Dad: Brian Hart, 51, co-founder, with his brother, of Black-I Robotics, a company that makes bomb-defusing robots for the military and police

Brian's Family: Wife: Alma Hart, married 28 years; Kids: Rebecca, 23, John, forever 20, Elizabeth, 19

Brian Lives In: Bedford, Massachusetts

Why Brian Is Amazing: On Saturday, October 17, 2003, Brian Hart and his wife Alma had a home inspection -- the last step before selling their house and moving, with their two teenage daughters, to Illinois from Massachusetts. The following morning, a representative from the United States Army came to tell them that their 20-year-old son John, who had been serving in Iraq, had died.

John had called Brian a week earlier, expressing his fear that he'd be killed riding around in an unarmored Humvee. And that's exactly what happened. Grief turned into anger, and Brian started doing research. He found out that a third of American soldiers in Iraq didn't have body armor, and that only 225 out of 35,000 vehicles were armored. Brian also found out that soldiers weren't being supplied with inexpensive tourniquets, which could save many lives on the battlefield.

It was then that the grieving father decided he had to do something to make sure other parents didn't lose their sons and daughters because they were unprotected. Instead of taking the job that was waiting for him in Illinois, Brian took his severance package and focused on making sure that soldiers in Iraq got the armor they needed. He spent the next three years doing pro-bono advocacy work in Washington, D.C.

Brian is no stranger to tragedy. Years earlier, his father died when a nurse accidentally gave him a lethal overdose of the powerful painkiller lidocaine. Appalled that such medication errors could happen, Brian founded a company that made health-care robotics to ensure the safe distribution of pharmaceuticals using bar codes. And in 2005, two years after John's death, Brian and his brother Richard started their company, Black-I-Robotics.

"We chose the name because it defined our bad attitude at the time with regard to the way soldiers were getting -- or not getting -- equipment such as robotics," Brian tells ParentDish. "Also, our logo is the Eye of Horace, the eye of the warrior. The all-seeing eye of the warrior was put on Phoenician war ships and represented the eternal spirit of the warrior."

Their goal? To create robots that would go out and push IEDs (improvised explosive devices) off the road, so unarmored soldiers didn't have to risk their lives doing it. Today, Black-I-Robotics' midsized Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) are used by law enforcement to deal with car bombs, border control and counter-terrorism. The U.S. Navy also uses one of the robots for reconnaissance.

Today, Brian blogs about his son, the military, robotics and more at The Minstrel Boy. The blog is named after an ancient song, and it's usually played on bagpipes. Brian finds particular meaning in the first verse: "The Minstrel Boy to the way is gone, in the ranks of death you will find him; His father's sword he hath girded on, and his wild harp slung behind him."

"I've never sought any recognition for what I've done," says Brian. "This work was John's legacy and it provided some meaning to his death. For my wife and me, it's our contribution to a country we love."

Brian's Wife Alma Says: "I'm very proud of Brian. We were moving from Massachusetts to Illinois for a job opportunity for Brian the day the Army knocked on the door, telling us John had been killed. It would have been very easy to just move. Brian could have taken the job and we would have had our nice house, but he didn't do it, because our daughters didn't want to move from their friends at such a crucial time. Brian chose his daughters over his career. He did the right thing, instead of the easy thing. I'm so proud of the hard work he's doing."

Recognition: Black-I-Robotics won a $728,000 contract from the Pentagon to further develop the "LandShark" robot.

Brian's Guilty Pleasures: "I collect pens. No need to be fancy. I'll be happy with one that says 'Joe's Towing,' as long as it writes well. I grew up in a household of artists, so a good pen or pencil is like comfort food for the hand."

Brian's Best Advice: "Hug your children while you can, because no man forces back the hands of time."

Amazing Dad: Donny Claxton, Brand Strategist for the Modern Media Man Summit, the first large-scale conference for men and dad bloggers

Donny's Family: Kids: Chandler, 13, twins Reagan and Haley, 10

Donny Lives In: Dallas, Texas

Why Donny Is Amazing: Donny's been blogging at DaddyClaxton.com for more than five years, writing about his daughters, issues in the news, photography, stress, divorce, weight loss, cool new products he's tried and more.

A few months ago, Donny received an e-mail from Debbie Lawrence, a senior marketing representative from Macon, Ga. Both had graduated from Auburn University in Alabama, and knew each other via Twitter and Facebook. Debbie had come up with the idea of a summit for men and daddy bloggers, and was looking for help getting the word out about the conference.

"The Modern Media Man Summit is an answer to a void," Donny tells ParentDish. "BlogWorld Expo and BlogHer do a great job of attracting moms to their meetings, but there's a growing emergence of the evolution of dads and their involvement in the blogosphere. The Modern Media Men Summit will give them the tools to blog better."

The Summit, which will be held in Atlanta from September 9-11, will have three tracks: personal, business and educating men about blogging and how to make money from it. "The mom bloggers have gotten that part of the market down, but guys are different," says Donny. "No one's really focused on men and dads and what we're doing online. I'm part of the Modern Media Man Summit to help give men and dads the tools to increase their level of participation and influence in blogging."

There's no official count of dad bloggers out there, but Google "dad blogger," and you get some 40,000,000 hits. Still, the founders and advisory board of the summit hope to get 500 bloggers at the first event, and grow from there.

In addition to blogging, photography and helping other companies with branding, Donny loves spending quality time with his daughters. But like most working dads and moms, Donny's biggest challenge is the elusive balance that all parents seek.

"The hardest part is finding the balance between meeting my clients' needs and those of my own in order to still have time for the girls," he says.

Donny's Daughter Chandler Says: "My dad does weekly date nights with me and my two sisters, separately. I think they're really important and it's nice to go out to dinner and catch up, without my sisters. I read my dad's blog once a week, normally. None of my friends' parents blog, and I think it's really cool. I like looking at how he views the family, and it just makes for good conversation later. My dad is an amazing dad."

Donny's Guilty Pleasure: "I'm a Mac. Anything I do for myself usually includes something new and high-tech from Apple. I'm hoping to have an iPad by mid-July.

Donny's Best Advice: "The biggest step for dad bloggers is just reaching out through social media tools like Facebook and Twitter and saying, 'Hi my name is Donny. I'm a father of three and I like to tell my story by reviewing great products. How can we work together for each other's mutual benefit?' Brands like working with men. We get the quid pro quo part."

When Melina Cummings, 37, of Montgomery County, Md., had her first child, she was overwhelmed. Three children later, she decided she was done having babies and gave all the baby stuff away. Today, she's the proud mother of eight -- three boys and five girls -- ages 5 months, 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 11 and 13.

And when she and her husband take the family out (in their 12-passenger van) they get a lot of attention.

"Sometimes people can't even comment. They just stare," she says. "Others just count, with their finger, out loud, as we pass by."

How does she -- and other moms of eight or more children -- get it all done? It all comes down to organization. And Costco, iCal, date nights at home and laundry-folding parties.
Continue reading 'Supersize' Families: The Joy of Having 8-Plus Kids

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Amazing Mom: Lisa Spicknall-Horner

Filed under: Divorce & Custody, Health & Safety: Babies, Resources, Bullying, Amazing Parents

Amazing Mom: Lisa Spicknall-Horner, advocate for victims of domestic violence

Lisa's Family: Husband: Elliot Horner, married 2 years; Kids: Zachary, 7, Liam, 5, Destiny, forever 3, Richie, forever 2

Lisa Lives In: Glen Burnie, Maryland

Why Lisa Is Amazing: Lisa Spicknall-Horner started dating her first husband at age 16 and he proceeded to abuse her for most of their eight-year relationship. In December 1998, she filed for a protective order against him. This should have prevented him from buying a gun, but the order was never entered into the state's database that's used for handgun checks.

Several months later, he bought a gun.

On September 8, 1999, he picked up their 2-year-old son, Richie, and 3-year-old daughter, Destiny, to take them on vacation. At 4 a.m. the following day, Lisa got a call from his father saying her ex-husband had been carjacked and the carjacker had taken the children.

The devastating panic became the ultimate grief when she learned there was no carjacking: Her husband had shot and killed both children.

"He had always made threats that I would never see the children again," she says, "but he had never been abusive toward the children -- only toward me."

While mourning the loss of her children, Lisa found out that there was a high error rate in protective orders in Maryland. With that knowledge, she decided she couldn't let what happened to her happen to anyone else.

"I realized that if I didn't do something to help people, no one else would," she says. "When I went in to file the protective order, there was no one there to say, 'You want to ask for supervised visitation' and all the different things that I should have known. There wasn't anybody to do that. So I made it my choice that I needed to help people to do that."

Two months after Richie and Destiny were killed, Lisa began speaking out to whomever would listen. And many people did. About a year after their deaths, she started working as a victim advocate for the Stephanie Roper Foundation -- now the Maryland Crime Victims Resource Center -- educating survivors and victims' families on their rights, helping them find an attorney and getting them counseling. Lisa's efforts have also resulted in developing an anti-domestic violence fund in the state of Maryland that assists with hiring additional personnel, computer staffing and other necessities to make sure protective orders are entered into the state's database.

"It's been pretty amazing," says Lisa. "I've seen a lot of changes. I always tell Destiny and Richie's story, because it helps keep them here with me, and I want people to remember this does happen. It happens to real people. Two beautiful children lost their lives for no reason."

Today, Lisa works as a victim's advocate for Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and helps guide survivors through the criminal and civil justice systems.

Lisa's Mom Peggy Fields Says: "Lisa took this horrible situation and made something out of it, and I'm very proud of her. Her work with victims helps her and gave her a lot of strength and courage to go on. People who have been through such a tragedy get a lot of strength from being with people who know what you've gone through. And Lisa helps them."

Recognition: State of Maryland Governor's Victim Assistance Award; Department of Corrections STARR Award for Victim Assistance; Charles County Sheriff's Office Victim Accommodation Award; Center for Abused Persons Domestic Violence Survivor Award; Forgiving Mothers Straight from the Heart Award of Appreciation; House of Ruth: A Line in the Sand

Lisa's Guilty Pleasures: "Pampering myself as much as I can, manicures, pedicures, massages -- whatever I can do to take a little time for myself and relax."

Lisa's Best Advice: "Cherish every minute you have with your children. Take lots of pictures and videos. Hug your kids and tell them how much you love them every day."
Amazing Mom: Stephanie Clark, founder of My Daughter's Keeper, which offers counseling, mentoring, workshops and retreats to help moms and daughters develop stronger bonds.

Stephanie's Family: Kid: Daphne, 20

Stephanie Lives In: North Brunswick, New Jersey

Why Stephanie Is Amazing: Eight years ago, Stephanie Clark founded My Daughter's Keeper, a nonprofit organization working to help strengthen relationships between moms and adolescent daughters. It all began when her own daughter, Daphne, who was 12 at the time, asked, "Mom, I know you love me, but do you like me?"

The question halted Stephanie right then and there. "It made me stop to assess whether or not I was an effective parent," she says. "I was self-employed and working long hours to put a roof over her head and food on the table. I didn't realize that in working to make sure Daphne's physical needs were provided for, I hadn't been there for her emotionally."

Inspired by Daphne's question -- and a desire to have a stronger relationship with her daughter -- Stephanie began spending more time with Daphne. "After reflecting on my own childhood, raised by a single mom, I realized that you can't give someone what you never received. I wasn't able to shower Daphne with affection because I never received that," she says. "I had to put in a lot of effort. I'd tell myself: 'Don't bring work home. And if you do, don't do it until you spend quality time with Daphne.'"

All of this led Stephanie to create My Daughter's Keeper, which offers counseling, mentoring, workshops and retreats to help moms and daughters develop stronger bonds. The organization also helps them tackle peer pressure, teen pregnancy, drug abuse and other issues that plague young girls.

As the organization grew, Stephanie also created Project Single Moms, to empower single moms to become leaders, and to strengthen the quality of life for their families. To date, more than 1,200 single moms across the country have signed on through local affiliates, which implement programs such as, Single Moms Boot Camp, to help moms improve their lives spiritually, emotionally, physically and financially.

And as if all that weren't enough, Project Single Moms is also working with Project Working Mom, a national online scholarship program created by elearners.com. Stephanie is the national spokesperson for Project Working Mom, which will give out 285 full-tuition online scholarships this year, worth approximately $5 million, to moms who want to earn a degree.

Stephanie's Friend Shanick Moore Says: "Stephanie is inspirational, motivational, all of that and more. If you have the pleasure of being around her, you can only grow and you can only be better. She encourages me to want more, to be a better person, to help more. Everything she does is to help someone else."

Stephanie's Guilty Pleasures: Stephanie goes for a full-body massages when she travels, Haagen Dazs Caramel Cone Ice Cream and WaWa's English Toffee Cappuccino.

Stephanie's Best Advice for Single Moms: "You are not alone. Sometimes you may feel that way, because you have the weight of the world on your shoulders, but it's important to connect with like-minded women to create a support group, so you don't feel like you're on you're own. Surround yourself with people who support you and who want to invest in your success. Connect with other women who have gone through what you're going through, who can be positive examples for you."
In January, 3-year-old Alice Baxter, of England, became a big sister -- times three.

Alice was conceived in 2006, via in vitro fertilization (IVF), and her parents, Helen and Shane Baxter, had the remaining embryos frozen. Last year, three of the embryos were implanted, and triplets Maisy, Niamh and Noah were born, six weeks early, in January.

The four children are being called quadruplets by the British press.

But that's not entirely accurate, says Dr. James Goldfarb, president of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology and director of the Infertility and IVF Program at the Cleveland Clinic. "For children to be quadruplets, they have to have developed simultaneously in the mother's womb."

It isn't unusual for a woman to get pregnant from the same batch of embryos, he says, though the number of triplet IVF pregnancies in this country has declined, as doctors now tend to implant fewer embryos.

Whether you call these children quadruplets or triplets plus one, with three infants and a toddler, the Baxters have their hands full!
When their children reach school age, many parents of twins wrestle with the decision to separate the siblings or put them in the same classroom. But according to recent research, when it comes to grades, it doesn't matter.

In a study that appeared in the January 2010 Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, University of Amsterdam researchers looked at 2,003 pairs of identical and fraternal twins. Most of the children (72 percent) were in the same class as their sibling; 19 percent were separated; and another 9 percent "partly" shared a classroom. At age 12, the students took a standardized test, and there was no significant difference in test scores between the three groups.

The researchers say parents, teachers and the children themselves should make the decision about whether or not to separate.
Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is the leading cause of death for babies ages 1 month to 1 year old. The causes of SIDS are still not fully understood, and while the Back to Sleep campaign has eliminated many deaths, SIDS is still a worry for new parents.

Now, researchers from Children's Hospital Boston say the brain chemical serotonin may be to blame. Serotonin is partly responsible for regulating breathing, blood pressure, heart rate and other involuntary actions as we sleep. According to the researchers, low levels of serotonin may put a baby at risk of SIDS. Normally, serotonin helps babies wake up when they have breathing problems in their sleep, so they can turn their heads and breathe in fresh air. But babies with low serotonin levels may never wake.
Continue reading Solving the SIDS Mystery?

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Building Baby's Layette - What You Really Need

Filed under: Toddlers Preschoolers, Health & Safety: Babies, Development/Milestones: Babies, Day Care & Education, Baby Essentials, Feeding & Sleeping, Baby-sitting, Research Reveals: Babies, Nutrition: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Gear Guides: Pregnancy, Expert Advice: Babies, Health & Safety: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Development: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Behavior: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Activities: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Gear Guides: Babies, Gear Guides: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Research Reveals: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Expert Advice: Toddlers & Preschoolers

Sure, the teeny tiny bikinis and baby Uggs are cute and make great shower gifts, but what do you really need when your little one comes home?

The exact number of burp cloths, towels and other linens needed really depends on how often you want to do laundry -- and how often your baby pees, pukes or poops on himself. But this list of must-haves should get you through the early months -- unless you're having multiples. Then you'll need at least double the numbers listed here:

Bath

3-4 hooded towels

4-5 washcloths

Ami and Brian Bunch, of Tucson, Ariz., are the proud parents of 10-month-old triplets who are currently sporting head-shaping helmets 23 hours a day, according to a story in the Arizona Daily Star. That's because Colton, Ethan and Hunter have plagiocephaly, or flattened head syndrome. The condition is more common than ever, and recent research in the journal Pediatrics says the main reason is that babies are sleeping on their backs.

But it's also more common in multiples.

"Simply having more children in the womb creates crowding and puts more pressure on the infants' head," study co-author Brian Verrelli, Ph.D., a human population geneticist in the School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University, tells ParentDish in an e-mail. Verrelli's co-author is Jessica Joganic, an undergraduate student at ASU.
Continue reading More Babies Have Flattened Head Syndrome

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Making Contact In The NICU

Filed under: Toddlers Preschoolers, Health & Safety: Babies, Development/Milestones: Babies, Day Care & Education, Feeding & Sleeping, Baby-sitting, Research Reveals: Babies, Nutrition: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Expert Advice: Babies, Health & Safety: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Development: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Behavior: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Activities: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Gear Guides: Babies, Gear Guides: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Research Reveals: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Expert Advice: Toddlers & Preschoolers

At the most crucial moments in a newborn's life, mothers wonder if making connections with others in the NICU is the right thing to do.

For nine months, moms-to-be wonder what baby will look like, who she will take after and what she'll grow up to be. And once that little one finally enters the world, we spend those first few days in the hospital staring at, holding, kissing and simply loving our child.

But when your baby ends up in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), that instant bonding is delayed: Baby is whisked off to be poked, prodded, tested and monitored -- for days, weeks or months. If you're lucky, you can hold and feed your newborn, but many moms can't even do that, as the baby is hooked up to lifesaving monitors and equipment.
Continue reading Making Contact In The NICU

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Tune In: "Expecting 15 Babies"

Filed under: Toddlers Preschoolers, Health & Safety: Babies, Development/Milestones: Babies, Day Care & Education, Feeding & Sleeping, Amazing Parents, Twins, Triplets, Multiples, Baby-sitting, Research Reveals: Babies, Nutrition: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Expert Advice: Babies, Health & Safety: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Development: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Behavior: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Activities: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Gear Guides: Babies, Gear Guides: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Research Reveals: Toddlers & Preschoolers, Expert Advice: Toddlers & Preschoolers

As any parent of multiples knows, the world is fascinated by twins and triplets. And when it comes to quadruplets, quintuplets and sextuplets, the intrigue is even deeper.

And Discovery Health's hour-long special, "Expecting 15 Babies," airing tonight at 8 p.m., delivers, showing how three families cope through a multiple pregnancy, birth and life at home.

The special, part of Discovery Health's Baby Week, follows the Tabb family as they await the arrival of quadruplets, the Carpio family as they bring their sextuplets home from the hospital one by one and the Wilkinsons as they juggle 22-month-old quintuplets. All three families have older children, too!

Whether you're simply curious about life with a big brood, are expecting your own babies or have been through the endless diaper-changing, all-day feeding sessions and nonstop laundry that come with raising multiples, you'll want to tune in.
It's hard enough coming up with a clever holiday card when you've got one child. When you've got twins, triplets or quadruplets, it's even tougher. But with a little creativity and perseverance, it can be done. Check out these adorable, why-didn't-I-think-of-that cards for inspiration for your own holiday greetings.

Parents remember the first time their older child met a new sibling -- usually at Mommy's hospital bedside. But this year, millions of big brothers and big sisters will have to wait until baby comes home to experience this milestone.

New restrictions at hospitals across the country are aimed at cutting the spread of the H1N1 virus, and since kids are forever passing germs back and forth, they're being banned from many hospitals.

"This is a hospital by hospital decision," says Elizabeth Lietz, a spokesperson for the American Hospital Association. "They take into consideration the patients and communities they serve and how H1N1 has been impacting their communities."
Continue reading Hospitals Keeping Kids Away to Ward Off Flu

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Stop!
We're told to get flu shots; make sure everyone who touches baby washes his or her hands first; and to avoid taking newborns to church, restaurants, the mall or anywhere he's in danger of catching a cold, flu or worse.

But this year, the threat of swine flu has everyone on infection-control overdrive, and, as a Utah ABC news station reports, some moms are taking germ control to the max.

One Utah mom keeps people from touching her newborn triplets with Hands off Baby stop signs that can be hung from infant carriers warning, "Wash hands before touching baby."

Germ-phobes can also buy don't-touch-me bibs, onesies, T-shirts and more, in hopes of keeping baby-loving strangers from getting too close.

Would you buy any of these stop signs?
