It was a battle between kids and grownups.

Good news, fellow mature adults. We won! We won! We won! [Feel free to cackle fiendishly.]

The battle, in case you're interested, was over Facebook. The little rugrats have not been completely run off, but adults 25 and older now control 62.3 percent of Facebook. It used to be the kids' turf. Just two years ago, 63 percent of Facebook users were younger than 23.

Facebook's clientele have matured, and it isn't because the kids are getting older. Recent statistics show that, without much of a struggle, the war was won.

It seems that everyone these days has a Facebook profile -- parents, children, rock bands, celebrities, even local restaurants. Everyone is a Friend, Fan or part of a Group.

But just how much has Facebook changed?
Continue reading Kids, Adults Co-Exist (Uneasily) on Facebook

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Girls Put the 'Amp' in Camp as They Rock 'n' Roll

Filed under: Tweens, Teens, Activities: Babies, In The News, That's Entertainment, Music, Movies

Boys can be sooo dense.

"They don't know girls dominate the world! And they don't know girls rock, rock ... and roll!

They certainly rock (not to mention roll) in Portland, Ore.

The girls cluing boys in on their dominance performed at the city's Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls. (Check out their song on Facebook).

Marissa Anderson, the camp's artistic director, tells ParentDish that Rock 'n' Roll Camp teaches girls aged 8 to 18 about a lot more than just playing music. The camp is about self-esteem, respect and empowerment.

The path girls take to that goal just happens to be rock 'n' roll.

The Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls started nine years ago as a one-week experiment. It has since grown to five week-long camps during the summer and an afterschool program called the Girls Rock Institute.
Continue reading Girls Put the 'Amp' in Camp as They Rock 'n' Roll

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
