OK, baby's on the way. Now, where are you going to put the bundle of joy while he sleeps? (And yes, no matter how it seems at the beginning, he will eventually sleep!) Here's a quick rundown of the things you're likely to need in your nursery and nursery bedding set and how much you might expect to pay:

The Crib: Cribs are the basis for any set of nursery bedding. Choose a neutral crib that can either be used again for your next child in a potentially different nursery altogether, or one that can convert into a toddler bed. Cribs can cost anywhere from about $150 to more than $1000, depending on what style you choose.

The Crib Mattress: It can be easy to forget babies and kids need comfortable places to sleep too, but they do! Make sure the crib mattress you choose fits your crib exactly -- gaps between the mattress and the slats of the crib are a nursery bedding safety hazard. While you can get a completely serviceable mattress for about $100, you'll also find organic and other models for a bit more.

There are really only three things you must have for a functional baby crib set: crib sheets, blankets and a waterproof pad of some sort.

You'll probably want to have several of each, however, so that you don't have to constantly run loads of laundry to be able to put your sweet baby to rest. You can, of course, supplement your baby's crib set with all manner of other accessories -- crib bumpers, crib skirts, comforters, curtains, rocking chair covers, diaper organizers, changing table covers -- the list goes on and on.

It can be a little dizzying to take it all, though, so here are some guidelines for the big three necessities, along with websites you can visit to help get you and your baby on the right path.
Continue reading Baby Crib Sets: A Shopping Guide

Permalink | Email this | Comments
