Sarah Palin - Babies, lipstick, and politics {ParentDish}
Sep 7th 2008 9:59PM May I suggest that you and Rachel reexamine how you qualify someone for the President/VP. Why would anyone blindly qualify someone suitable for Vice President just because they are a mother or come out of the PTA? That is just as irrational as qualifying Obama because he is black. This comes from the same blue collar mentality of those who qualified George Bush for President because he looks like the kind of guy you could have a beer with.
Since it seems that Republicans are going to make this another election about true character, maybe because they have nothing really different to run on other than the same mantra we have been listening to for the past 8 years, let's take what true character we have seen from Palin thus far.
What we have seen is one speech at a convention, that was written by a man, who by the way, is a Bush speech writer. And in this speech she showed her profound true character by spending that vast majority of time taking shots at Obama. In the end, it was divisive politics as usual, designed for nothing more than to do McCain's dirty work, by attacking the left and firing up the right. Nothing inspiring beyond her personal life. No vision of how she wants to reach all Americans. But if she had the kind of character, that rises above party politics and if she had true vision to lead, she would not have been so disingenuous and petty.
Sarah Palin - Babies, lipstick, and politics {ParentDish}
Sep 6th 2008 11:28PM Sorry if this is so fragmented;
My first impression of Sara Palin was that if she really was the real deal and really took on the "Good ole Boys like she says she has, she wouldn't have recited a convention speech written by Bush speech writers.
I think it was very revealing that after her speech when McCain walked out on stage to greet her, he did not hold her hand up together in unison like every campaign team has done as far back as I can remember. Instead, he placed his wife between him and Palin. Same thing after his speech.
Just by looking at the audience at the Republican convention was revealing enough to know that this is a party that is limited in scope. I just wonder why blue collars would give their vote to corporate Republicans who have never been in a small town let alone know what small town values are. And this is why I think Palin is so attractive to so many conservatives, especially conservative women.
If Palin does become VP, she will not be able to stand up to John McCain like Biden would with Obama. Biden will be able to point out to Obama his blind spots. I am not sure whether anyone can tell McCain what he should do especially a newcomer like Palin.
Palin has absolutely no influence in Washington. Biden has tremendous influence in the Senate and with committees to help much like LBJ did with Kennedy. I think it is idealistic to think that Palin will have any real impact in Washington other than her newcomer status.
Personally I love John McCain. I admire him in many ways but I think he represents a party of exclusion. I certainly have witnessed how his party has treated him. I don't understand why he puts up with it other than they the Republicans provide him with the money he needs.
It is too bad that McCain is using Palin to appease the conservative votes. I hope that Sarah know that McCain would have like to have had Joe Lieberman but he chose her only because she is a woman, because she is conservative, because she is pretty, and because he needs votes. I respect Obama for not choosing Hillary just to win those 18 million votes.
