Kevin Federline Launches Kid Clothing Line
Celeb parenting, Weird but true
According to Women's Wear Daily, K-Fed was in Las Vegas to check out the Project trade show "in the interest of research...looking around at the styles...hoping to be inspired by what he saw."
Celeb Fashion Lines
These days, no self respecting celebrity can hold her (or his) head up in Hollywood without a clothing, shoe, handbag, or home furnishings line to call their own. But are these stars really qualified to add designer to their resume? StyleList puts them to the test. First up...
Celeb:Taylor Swift
Fashion Line: L.E.I. Sundresses by Taylor Swift
Qualifications:The young country singer is releasing a line of frocks this February that her die-hard fans will love and moms can afford. We're sure Swift's brand will expand into denim.

Celeb: Dita Von Teese
Fashion Line: Science of Sexy for Wonderbra
Qualifications: This burlesque bombshell spends most of her time in scanty skivvies, so we're absolutely confident she is capable of creating amazing lingerie! Of her '40s and '50s-inspired line Von Teese says "Underwear isn't just something that you put on for your lover -- you wear it for you."

Celeb: Lauren Bush
Fashion Line:Lauren Pierce (hits stores in Spring 2009)
Qualifications: An alum of both Parsons New School for Design in NYC and Central Saint Martins College in London, first niece and former model Lauren Bush definitely has a solid design foundation. Add to that an internship at Zac Posen, a boyfriend with a designer dad (her main squeeze is Ralph Lauren's son) and the success of the popular FEED bags she designed to benefit the U.N.'s World Food Program, and it looks like Ms. Bush has the chops to make her ready-to-wear sustainable fabrics line a hit.

Celeb: Eva Mendes
Fashion Line: Vida for Macy's
Qualifications: Calvin Klein's latest controversial ad campaigns features a naked Eva Mendes rolling around on a bed, so perhaps her new venture isn't really all that surprising. The actress and her boyfriend, film producer George Augusto, are launching a collection of sheets and comforters. While neither has any design background, we're betting the betting the lovebirds know how to make a cozy nest.

Celeb: Mischa Barton
Fashion Line: Mischa Barton for Stacey Lapidus
Qualifications:The former O.C. star gets more ink these days for her hair accessories than her acting jobs so maybe this is a brilliant career move: She's coming out with a line of headbands made from a wide array of materials including silk, feathers and crystals, ranging in price from $40-$200.

Celeb: Janet Jackson
Fashion Line:Pleasure Principle
Qualifications:Named after her 1987 hit, the fancy pants (and matching bras) will all retail for under $40. "There's something for every woman, and that's very important to us," Jackson says. "I've always hated when lingerie is uncomfortable, so the fit and comfort was key." Nothing nasty about that, Miss Jackson.

Celeb: Lenny Kravtiz
Fashion Line: Inspired by Lenny, Worn by You at Kohls
Qualifications:Hmmm, we're not sure that even Lenny's biggest fans would be inspired to wear this denim, fringe and wings ensemble, but fortunately for those who do want to emulate the the rocker's style, his jeans and t-shirts line for Kohls is a bit more traditional.

Celeb: Tara Reid
Fashion Line: Manta
Qualifications:Sometimes an actress, always a party girl, and now a designer. According to Reid her little triangles of Lycra are more than simple poolside attire, "It's about putting into the universe what you want in life: Red means love, pink is friendship, green is lucky, black is protection. You're gonna have a story when you wear this bikini or when you put this dress on: You'll either get love or meet a new friend or you might meet a guy." Big promises from little bikinis!

Celeb: Katie Holmes
Fashion Line: Holmes/Yang for Giorgio Armani
Qualifications: Mrs. Tom Cruise created her own storm at the LA premiere of "Tropic Thunder," debuting the first piece from her collection with stylist pal Jeanne Yang. But given the dress's sleek lines and navy blue fabric two Giorgio Armani trademarks it's a good bet that Katie got more than a little help from her silver-haired mentor.

Celeb: La Lohan
Fashion Line: 6126 Leggings
Qualifications:Lindsay Lohan's collection owes its name to Marilyn Monroe born on 6/1/26 but it doesn't look like she captured what made the '50s bombshell so sexy. Does the modern American woman really need leopard print "ankle gloves"? Or glimmer leggings? Seems like La Lohan is channeling no one but...Lindsay.

Britney Spears Seeks to End "Amy" Controversy
Behaving badly, That's entertainment
"If U Seek Amy," Britney' Spears's new single, is about to be released. Catchy little tune -- and if you say the title fast enough, it sounds just like she's saying F--- me. This, of course, could present a problem for radio stations that want to air the song but still have to abide by FCC guidelines. What to do?
Rather than be dropped by U.S. radio stations (ka-ching), Britney has decided to drop the "k" from "Seek." Now, the chorus goes: But all of the boys and all of the girls are beggin' to If You See Amy."
"It's a potential issue for every station," said John Ivey, program director for Los Angeles' KIIS-FM. "I'm certain that I would run it by my legal department first. My first job is to protect [the station's] license. ... It's better to be safe than sorry."
Britney, you are finally growing up and taking the youth of America as seriously as you take your own boys. Back in December we wrote about that Rolling Stone where she confided, "They're starting to learn words like 'stupid,' and Preston says the f-word now sometimes. He must get it from his daddy. I say it, but not around my kids."
As to whether or not I would let my kids listen to it, probably not. But only because I don't care for Britney's music. What's your take on all this?
Britney Spears Bored With Her Structured Life
Celeb parenting, Behaving badly
Britney Spears has something to say about her new, more structured life. In typical Britney style, she's not holding anything back:"I think it's too in-control," she says in Britney: For the Record, a new documentary about her life. "If I wasn't under the restraints I'm under, I'd feel so liberated. When I tell them the way I feel, it's like they hear but they're not really listening."
"They," I can only assume are her parents and managers. Britney's dad, Jaime Spears, has had control of Britney's estate since her much-publicized meltdown. But far from being grateful for his hand in getting her career back on track and, maybe more importantly, her boys back in her life, Britney takes another shot:
"Even when you go to jail, y'know, there's the time when you're going to get out. But in this situation, it's never-ending. It's just like Groundhog Day' all over again."
Britney Spears' boys' birthday bash
Toddlers, Preschoolers, Celeb kids, Life & style, Birthdays
Driving around in customized, matching electric ride-on cars with personalized license plates, Preston (3) and Jayden (2) Spears celebrated their birthdays (September 14th and 12th, respectively) together along with their family. The boys' grandparents were there along with their aunt and newborn cousin Maddie Briann.Other celebrity guests included Jenny McCarthy's son Evan and Gwen Stefani's son Kingston. According to a source speaking with People magazine, "The boys received tons of birthday gifts. Britney and her family really made the party special for the boys." The cake was in the shape of a yellow truck to match the cars-and-trucks theme of the party.
You know? Those boys have been through a lot, what with their mum's issues and all; it seems to me they deserve a nice time for a change.
Britney Spears will open MTV's Video Music Awards
Celeb parenting, Behaving badly
Jezebel has breaking news that Britney Spears will open MTV's VMAs this year, twelve months after her performance at the 2007 VMAs left us all feeling a little... confused. She will not be performing, however, so exactly what her role will be remains to be seen.Britney has put in a lot of hard work over the last several months. She's slowly but steadily getting more time with her boys, she's back to work and back to working out, and she's not making headlines every day with erratic behavior that makes us shake our heads and mutter about "that poor girl."
Though fervent fans will be glad to see Britney back up on stage, I can't help but wonder if this is really in Britney's best interest. She seems to me to be in the middle of her recovery. Her dad still has control over her affairs and she doesn't yet have at least joint custody of the boys. Will a "comeback" boost her confidence and help her continue on this more positive path, or does it put her at risk for a relapse?
The mom in me wishes she'd just focus on making a nice, quiet, healthy life for herself and her boys for now, but maybe putting herself back out there is part of her recovery process. What do you think?
Britney Spears interview with OK magazine- sneak peek!
Divorce & custody, Celeb parenting, Rumors, In the news
It's been a long time since we've heard from Britney Spears. Just over a year ago, OK! magazine attempted to sit down with the pop star, but that interview and accompanying photo shoot were scrapped after Spear's erratic behavior (and non-housebroken dog) made it evident things were not going to proceed as planned.
What a difference a year makes! This time around, with her father at her side, a healthier Britney was able to sit down and finally have that talk with OK! magazine.
Minnie Driver pregnant
Minnie Driver is taking cues from other celebrity moms, revealing she's pregnant after a crack about her weight (like Lisa Marie Presley), making the announcement on late night TV (like Britney did when she was expecting Jayden James), and is keeping mum about who the father is (like Northern Exposure's Janine Turner).
The 38 year old Oscar nominee said she's four months "and a little bit" and has been plagued with the dreaded morning sickness that lasts all day.
In addition to an impressive acting resume, Driver has released two albums, Everything I've Got in My Pocket and SEASTORIES. Audio samples of her songs are available on her website.
Britney dropping in popularity as a baby name
Newborns, Babies, Celeb parenting, Behaving badly, In the news
Of course, the popularity of baby names change with the times, so who knows? Maybe when Britney finally makes her comeback, or at least stops having her saddest moments televised on national TV, we'll find that there's a whole new generations of little Britneys running around.
Did you consult the "most popular" lists before naming your child?
Britney teaches children's dance class
Britney Spear's recent hospital stay, reconciliation with her parents, and time away from skeevy friends seems to be having a positive effect on her life.
The entertainer has been avoiding the night life and hasn't shown her girlie bits or been spotted hanging out at convenience stores for days. Her dad was even photographed throwing out one of the pink wigs she tends to be wear when things start getting really out of control.
The new-and-improved Britney has even added a line to her resume: teacher. The singer and dancer taught an hour long dance class to six children at the Millennium dance studio where she's been putting in time polishing her own moves.
"The class was amazing," Robert Baker, director of the Millennium Dance Complex told PEOPLE magazine. "She even played age-appropriate games in a circle, pretending to be a choo-choo train," Baker said. "Britney was just amazing with the kids and everyone ended up having a blast. At the end of the hour class, all the kids hugged Britney and she seemed very happy."
While it's really great to hear Britney seems to be getting better, I'd still have a hard time leaving any of my kids with her. What about you?
Why does Britney need a pregnancy test?
Celeb parenting, Rumors, Behaving badly
I've seen numerous headlines lately promoting the idea that Britney Spears is longing have another child to replace the two that have been taken from her by Kevin Federline and the courts. To me, that sounds a lot like something a tabloid would invent in order to sell papers and I've pretty much assumed it's not true. But now, I'm not so sure.Earlier this week, Britney was spotted and photographed shopping for pregnancy tests with boyfriend Adnan Ghalib by her side. As far as I know, pregnancy tests have just one purpose: determining whether or not a woman is pregnant. Based on that, one could assume that Spears has reason to believe she might be with child and is looking to find out for sure. But this is Britney we are talking about and for her, there could be another explanation.
Every move Spears makes is photographed and documented and talked about like it was real news. She knows this. And she knew she was being photographed in that Rite-Aid and I believe it is entirely possible that the attention-seeking pop star was putting on a show intended to get us talking about her. As messed up as that sounds, I sincerely hope that is what she was doing.
Britney Spears adopting Chinese twins?
Celeb kids, Celeb parenting, Rumors
This sounds like a story invented to sell papers, but with Britney Spears, you just never know. The British tabloid News of the World reports that the beleaguered pop star is planning to adopt 6-year-old twins from China. The Rav Showbiz column reports that she isn't just wishing for new children, she's actually in the final stages of talks with the adoption agency and the process is moving forward. Why on earth would the party girl who can't properly care for her own children want more? According to the article, she is trying to fill the void left after losing custody of Sean Preston and Jayden James. I thought that was why she got the new goldfish.
And if that didn't sound crazy enough, the paper also claims that Spears has made a down payment on her own funeral.
Even it if were true that Spears is longing for more children, I cannot imagine that she would be allowed to adopt. And the funeral business? That's actually a little disturbing. You know, I really do feel sorry for this girl.
Britney's spending habits revealed
Celeb parenting, Rumors, Behaving badly
Sure, Britney seems crazy, but it can be hard to know what to believe amidst the media fervor that surrounds this unfortunate woman -- so who's to say whether or not Britney should have custody of her children?
Well, these court papers might help. They reveal how the ridiculously wealthy pop star spends her enormous income -- partying, buying clothes, eating out, and talking on the phone.
Here's a quick rundown on some monthly expenses:
- $102,000 on entertainment, gifts and vacation
- $49,267 on mortgage payments
- $16,000 on clothes
- $4,758 on eating out
- $2,500 on phone bills
Yikes! All of those figures are more than my mortgage. And that's not to mention the $15,000 a month she pays in child support, and the $120,000 she owes in legal expenses (a ruling based on the fact that most of the hearings were only necessary because she's been acting like a lunatic).
Meanwhile, while KFed isn't exactly thrifty, he's spending a mere $5,000 on entertainment, $7,500 on rent, and $2,000 on clothes. I know I have a long history of making fun of Mr. Federline, but those kids are lucky they have at least one parent who is somewhat under control.
Tatum O'Neal reaches out to Britney
Celeb kids, Celeb parenting, In the news, Alcohol & drugs

Coincident to the recent outpouring of support from Tatum O'Neal to other troubled starlet mama Britney Spears, I watched the Bad News Bears. You know, the original one with Walter Matthau. It was excellent, and I thought--oh, so THAT's who Tatum is!
Tatum didn't win her Oscar for her portrayal of a spunky pitcher looking for a father figure, and she didn't win any hearts over the drug abuse that lead a court to turn custody of her kids over to ex-husband John McEnroe.
You know things are scary when a judge chooses John McEnroe as a better role model for your children than you. Unlike Britney, Tatum saw the writing on the wall and sought the help Britney seems to reluctant to get.
Tatum underwent drug counseling, submitted to the drug tests and went to rehab. She is urging Britney to humble herself and do the same.
Perhaps this approach will work. Tatum is a recovered addict herself, and instead of chiding Britney like the rest of the world, seems to genuinely want to help her rather than use Britney's shortcomings to make her look better. Since the two former child stars share a similar past, maybe Britney will heed Tatum's advice and get the help she needs.
I think ultimately no one, media or otherwise, wants to see a mother have her children taken away from her. That someone violates the natural law. I think we'd all prefer to breathe a sigh of relief seeing Britney clean up her act and get her kids back.
Tatum is a shining example of how the system can work, and how you can win if you commit to doing it right. I just hope Britney has the ability to do the same.
Britney wants to guide her little sister's career?
Teens & tweens, Celeb kids, Celeb parenting, Rumors
So, this makes her the perfect choice to guide little sister Jamie Lynn's career? According to the Daily Star, that is exactly where she has set her sights. 16-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears is already semi-famous, starring in her own show on Nickelodeon. She's a talented little actress, but can she sing? According to reports, records companies think so and want to sign her up. But while mama Lynn Spears tries to control her younger daughter's career, her older daughter wants in on the action.
Lynn Spears is credited with making Britney a star and you can't deny that she took young Britney's 'talent' a lot farther than one could have expected. But considering how Britney turned out, why on earth would either one of them want to guide another child down that path?
Britney's lawyer walks, bodyguard talks
Just for moms, Just for dads, Divorce & custody, Celeb kids, Celeb parenting, Rumors
I don't know who exactly is in her inner circle, but as of Monday, you can count a few people out. Like attorney Laura Wasser. She is no longer representing Spears in her custody battle with Kevin Federline due to reported disagreements over strategy in the case. I suspect that Wasser wanted to get off the Britney-train before it completely crashed and burned.
Also fleeing on Monday was Spears' manager, Jeff Kwatinetz of the Firm. After representing her for just one fun-filled month, the management company confirmed that relationship has ended. "It saddens us to confirm media reports that we have terminated our professional relationship with Britney Spears. We believe Britney is enormously talented, and has made a terrific record. But current circumstances have prevented us from properly doing our job. We wish Britney the best."
But Britney's bad awful day wasn't over yet. Federline's attorney Gloria Allred brought out her secret weapon in the custody case: Spear's former bodyguard Tony Barretto. He's filed a declaration alleging "drug use, nudity and safety issues" perpetrated by Spears in the presence of her children. Nudity in front of her children? The horror!
