Rumer Willis not wild about her unusual name

Celeb kids, Rumors, Playground bureau

Although it appears to be happening with greater frequency, celebrities giving their children unusual names is not new, just ask Frank Zappa's kids: Moon Unit, Dweezil, Ahmet Emuukha Rodan, or Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen. What is rather unique is hearing what it was like growing up with such a unique moniker.

Rumer Willis, oldest daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis told the New York Post that around the age of 12 she realized she had been given a raw deal name-wise.

"My sisters, Scout and Talullah, had cute nicknames," said Rumer, who apparently had no such luck. "In school, kids would sing, 'Rumer, Rumer with a big hairy tumor.'"

Even aimless doodling on notebook paper didn't work out for the superstar celeb spawn. "When I was 12 and had crushes on guys, I'd put my first name with their last name, but it never sounded right. Rumer Depp? Nope."

Poor kid. She didn't even mention the complete absence of mass-produced personalized key rings available for Rumers at gift shops!

Bruce Willis lets daughter wear too short shorts?

Celeb kids, Life & style, Celeb parenting, Behaving badly

There are some fairly controversial pictures making their rounds on the Internet today: specifically, Bruce Willis' and Demi Moore's daughter with her butt cheeks hanging out of some scandalously short shorts.

It's not the eldest Willis child displaying a willingness to bare a lot, either -- it's the youngest child, barely 14-year-old Tallulah Belle. And it's hard to say for sure, but I'd venture to guess that the bum creep action is unintentional. Short shorts are trendy this season and I dunno, she looks so otherwise innocent. I wonder if it's another case of the paparazzi just looking for the greasy money shot, but still - I can't help but thinking her Dad must have noticed that she was semi bare-bummed as he was hugging her. And I wonder if he said anything or pretended, red-faced, not to notice.

I remember being obsessed with the TV show DeGrassi Junior High when I was a pre-teen, watching Stephanie Kaye stroll demurely to school in her prim outfit, only to emerge triumphantly from the bathroom stall in all her trashy, short-skirted glory. Her parents couldn't stop her from dressing provocatively, even if she had to go to great lengths to hide it from them. Similarly, I'm thinking Bruce probably can't stop Tallulah, either.

Teens are unstoppable, especially young teen girls, I remember my own short-lived penchant for inch-long shorts. But, oh, I wish someone would put a wrap skirt on that Willis girl.

Bruce Willis scares the crap out of his daughters' boyfriends

Celeb parenting

Most guys can remember the first time they dated a girl with a really scary father. The kind of guy all those movie stereotypes are based on, that's rude, standoffish, and does everything but punch you in the face while you for wait for his daughter, desperate to get the hell out of there.

Apparently Bruce Willis is that kind of dad -- which you probably could've guessed if you've seen any of the Die Hard movies.

The 52-year-old has three daughters, Rumer, 18; Scout, 15; and Tallulah, 13. Whenever they're hanging out with a new guy, or group of guys, Willis takes one of the young men aside and gives them "that look."

By which the actor really means that he instills the fear of death into their adolescent soul. "I always put one of them in charge ... I say, 'If anything happens to one of my daughters, I'm coming to you first, and then I'm going to kill all your friends right in front of you, and you'll be last.'"

If Bruce Willis had said that to me when I was a teenager, I think I would've wet my pants.

Rumer Willis on avoiding the pitfalls of stardom

Just for moms, Teens & tweens, Just for dads, Celeb kids, Celeb parenting

Navigating the road to stardom can't be easy for a young person, but give Bruce Willis and Demi Moore's daughter Rumer credit for trying to stay on the straight and narrow. After getting caught up in a drug bust in a hotel room last month in Maryland, she seems to be learning from her mistakes. "Honestly, it's been kind of making mistakes and figuring them out and having a lot of really great people as my mentors," Willis tells Access Hollywood.

She doesn't name any names, but I think we all know who the 19-year-old is referring to when she says, "I see a lot of situations that seem to me to be lacking of a self-respect and a self-value where girls get drunk and they just kind of fall over each other."

I would think the most difficult thing about being a celebrity would be reading all the awful things people write about you - whether they are true or not. Asked if she reads celebrity blogs, she says "I try not to. I used to a lot and it was really hurtful."

Here's to hoping Rumer Willis really can keep it together and avoid the pitfalls of being young, rich and famous. Franky, if Bruce Willis were my dad, I would be a good kid, too.

Rumer Willis caught up in drug bust

Just for moms, Just for dads, Celeb kids, Celeb parenting, Alcohol & drugs

Demi Moore's eldest daughter Rumer may not do drugs, but it appears that some of her friends do. The 18-year-old budding actress was in a room at the La Quinta Inn in Aberdeen, Maryland, when the cops showed up, responding to a noise complaint reported by another guest. They smelled marijuana before even entering the room and once inside, discovered a "small amount" of pot and smoking paraphernalia.

The room was registered to 32-year-old Christopher Alan Henry, who was arrested and charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession. Rumer is in town working on the film From Within and Henry works on the set as a key grip. He was the only one arrested and police say the case is closed.

Rumer may be breathing a sigh of relief, but she still has to face dad, Bruce Willis. He recently told Playboy Magazine that his daughters have been warned about experimenting with drugs and that alcoholism runs in the Willis-Moore family. "We have an ongoing conversation," he said. "They have the gene, and we warn them: 'You have a predisposition to be an alcoholic.' It's on her side of the family and mine. It's something to be aware of. My kids are strongly antidrug."

I don't know how Rumer is going to explain this away. If the cops could smell marijuana outside of the hotel room, there is no way that girl didn't know what was going on inside. I sincerely hope she can avoid the drug and alcohol pitfalls that seems to trap so many young girls in Hollywood these days. Perhaps Rumer needs to hightail it back to Hailey, Idaho before it is too late.
