Celeb Fashion Lines
These days, no self respecting celebrity can hold her (or his) head up in Hollywood without a clothing, shoe, handbag, or home furnishings line to call their own. But are these stars really qualified to add designer to their resume? StyleList puts them to the test. First up...
Celeb:Taylor Swift
Fashion Line: L.E.I. Sundresses by Taylor Swift
Qualifications:The young country singer is releasing a line of frocks this February that her die-hard fans will love and moms can afford. We're sure Swift's brand will expand into denim.

Celeb: Dita Von Teese
Fashion Line: Science of Sexy for Wonderbra
Qualifications: This burlesque bombshell spends most of her time in scanty skivvies, so we're absolutely confident she is capable of creating amazing lingerie! Of her '40s and '50s-inspired line Von Teese says "Underwear isn't just something that you put on for your lover -- you wear it for you."

Celeb: Lauren Bush
Fashion Line:Lauren Pierce (hits stores in Spring 2009)
Qualifications: An alum of both Parsons New School for Design in NYC and Central Saint Martins College in London, first niece and former model Lauren Bush definitely has a solid design foundation. Add to that an internship at Zac Posen, a boyfriend with a designer dad (her main squeeze is Ralph Lauren's son) and the success of the popular FEED bags she designed to benefit the U.N.'s World Food Program, and it looks like Ms. Bush has the chops to make her ready-to-wear sustainable fabrics line a hit.

Celeb: Eva Mendes
Fashion Line: Vida for Macy's
Qualifications: Calvin Klein's latest controversial ad campaigns features a naked Eva Mendes rolling around on a bed, so perhaps her new venture isn't really all that surprising. The actress and her boyfriend, film producer George Augusto, are launching a collection of sheets and comforters. While neither has any design background, we're betting the betting the lovebirds know how to make a cozy nest.

Celeb: Mischa Barton
Fashion Line: Mischa Barton for Stacey Lapidus
Qualifications:The former O.C. star gets more ink these days for her hair accessories than her acting jobs so maybe this is a brilliant career move: She's coming out with a line of headbands made from a wide array of materials including silk, feathers and crystals, ranging in price from $40-$200.

Celeb: Janet Jackson
Fashion Line:Pleasure Principle
Qualifications:Named after her 1987 hit, the fancy pants (and matching bras) will all retail for under $40. "There's something for every woman, and that's very important to us," Jackson says. "I've always hated when lingerie is uncomfortable, so the fit and comfort was key." Nothing nasty about that, Miss Jackson.

Celeb: Lenny Kravtiz
Fashion Line: Inspired by Lenny, Worn by You at Kohls
Qualifications:Hmmm, we're not sure that even Lenny's biggest fans would be inspired to wear this denim, fringe and wings ensemble, but fortunately for those who do want to emulate the the rocker's style, his jeans and t-shirts line for Kohls is a bit more traditional.

Celeb: Tara Reid
Fashion Line: Manta
Qualifications:Sometimes an actress, always a party girl, and now a designer. According to Reid her little triangles of Lycra are more than simple poolside attire, "It's about putting into the universe what you want in life: Red means love, pink is friendship, green is lucky, black is protection. You're gonna have a story when you wear this bikini or when you put this dress on: You'll either get love or meet a new friend or you might meet a guy." Big promises from little bikinis!

Celeb: Katie Holmes
Fashion Line: Holmes/Yang for Giorgio Armani
Qualifications: Mrs. Tom Cruise created her own storm at the LA premiere of "Tropic Thunder," debuting the first piece from her collection with stylist pal Jeanne Yang. But given the dress's sleek lines and navy blue fabric two Giorgio Armani trademarks it's a good bet that Katie got more than a little help from her silver-haired mentor.

Celeb: La Lohan
Fashion Line: 6126 Leggings
Qualifications:Lindsay Lohan's collection owes its name to Marilyn Monroe born on 6/1/26 but it doesn't look like she captured what made the '50s bombshell so sexy. Does the modern American woman really need leopard print "ankle gloves"? Or glimmer leggings? Seems like La Lohan is channeling no one but...Lindsay.

Teen Birth Rates Increase in 26 States
Newborns, Teens & tweens, Pregnancy & Birth
Thought teen pregnancy was a thing of the past? Well, if the well-publicized "celebrity" teen pregnancies that went down in 2008 didn't convince you, take a look at this.
Turns out Jamie Lynn Spears and Bristol Palin are way more representative of the population than previously thought. According to a new federal report, there was an increase in the rate of teen births in 26 states.

The results are in and the top baby names for 2008 have been determined according to Babycenter.com. And despite the celebrity weirdness of late (Zuma Nesta Rock? Bronx Mowgli?) average parents are sticking with average names for their offspring. Why do you suppose that is?

The "Miss Teen Pregnancy" crown now belongs to Mississippi, displacing New Mexico and Texas (now first and second runners up, respectively) for that lamentable title. Mississippi has a rate of 68.4 per 1,000, followed by New Mexico, with 64.1 and Texas, with 63.1. New Hampshire ranks lowest for teen pregnancies: 18.7 per 1,000.
According to the state-by-state breakdowns, these figures reveal the most dramatic increase in teen fertility since 1971. Explanations range from culture, race, and education and poverty levels, according to David Landry, a researcher at the Guttmacher Institute. And one other thing: "It's more costly for youth in the Northeast to have a teen birth than for youth in the South, in terms of opportunities they'll miss," he told the AP.
As mentioned before, certain celeb teens are in the public eye. But I don't really think we can pin this one on Jamie Lynn and Bristol; if anything they're just representative of the trend, not leading it. One could argue that refusing to teach teens about birth control and provide them with contraception might have something to do with it. Abstinence-only education could also be a contributor. Guess those promise rings and virginity pledges aren't quite having their intended effect.
All I can say is talk to your teen about sex. Again and again and again.
Tim Allen to Be a Daddy Again
Pregnancy & Birth, Bump Watch, That's Entertainment
Tim Allen, of Home Improvement and the Santa Clause movie franchise, is set to be a daddy again. Tim, who is now 55 years old, and wife Jane Hajduk are expecting their first child together sometime this spring. The couple have been married since 2006.
Tim is also the daddy of nineteen year old Katherine, with ex-wife Laura Deibel, if you can imagine, but is very excited about the newest addition to his family. As far as Jamie Lynn Spears and Bristol Palin are concerned, that makes Katherine old enough to be the new baby's mommy! But, I digress.
Congratulations to the happy couple! I wish them nothing but the best. I wish, too, that Tim hadn't provided the voice for a certain toy my son loves to play with that says "Buzz Lightyear to the rescue!" over and over and over...and over.
Did Jamie Lynn Spears Have Lipo While Pregnant?
Newborns, Pregnancy & Birth, Behaving Badly

Rumor has it that Jamie Lynn Spears has undergone a new treatment to suck the fat right out of her. Both the Enquirer and Star magazines are claiming Spears underwent the procedure. Trouble is, each is reporting a different time frame for the treatment. Star has gone the extra mile and claims that the new mom actually had the procedure done while she was pregnant!
The Zooey 101 lead was seventeen when she gave birth to daughter Maddie and is alleged to have had injections of soy to help dissolve fat after she thought she was getting too fat. Mom Lynn Spears pulled a few strings or something to get the injections since Jamie Lynn was underage for the procedure. Star is claiming the new mom didn't know she was pregnant at the time of the injections.
What do you make of all this? I doubt it's true, yet, at the same time, is too weird to be unbelievable. I am sure we've all done things we wouldn't have done had we known we were pregnant (how do you like THOSE verb tenses?). On the other hand, I sort of knew when I was pregnant--I took those tests and felt odd. Being seventeen might preclude one from being familiar with the signs of pregnancy though, right?

"I think it validated that I was meant to be a mother because every day I dealt with the character as a mother and thinking as a mother...It let me know that I must be a mother."

Jamie Lynn Spears sends gift to Sarah Palin's pregnant daughter
All politics aside, I can't imagine how hard it is to be Bristol Palin right now. Shoved squarely into the media spotlight by her mother's VP dreams, she's had to endure scrutiny by a harsh and unforgiving media. At an age where wearing the wrong style of shirt to school can cause a teen to feel major embarrassment, Bristol is now being watched closely by an entire nation.Jamie Lynn Spears thinks she knows how Bristol feels. In a show of solidarity, she recently sent Bristol a set of $60 pink burp clothes to the teen. Jamie Lynn gave birth to baby Maddie in June, at the age of 17, and like Bristol plans to marry her baby's father, Casey Aldridge.
Jamie Lynn's gesture was nice, but her circumstances were far different. As Britney's sister and a celeb in her own right, Jamie Lynn was accustomed to the glaring flashbulbs of the paparazzi. When she found out she was pregnant, she knew what she was facing by announcing it. But while Bristol probably expected her pregnancy news would cause a small stir in Alaska, I'm sure she never in a million years expected this.
On a lighter note... who pays $60 for a burp cloth?
Jamie Lynn finds teenage motherhood "so much fun"

OK! magazine, the publication that Jamie Lynn Spears revealed her pregnancy at sixteen years old, features the teen mom and three-week-old Maddie Briann on their cover this week.
And in spite of troubling reports of teenage pregnancy pacts and the efforts of shows like Baby Borrowers to de-romanticize having a baby at a young age, Jamie Lynn wants everyone to know that "being a mom is the best feeling in the world!"
A girl for Jamie Lynn!
Bring on the pink, Auntie Brit-Brit!
Jamie Lynn Spears, star of Zoey 101 and her fiance Casey Aldridge became proud parents to a baby daughter, Maddie Briann, around 9:30 a.m. at the Mississippi Southwest Regional Medical Center in McComb, Miss.
The bundle of sugar and spice weighed in at 7lbs, 11ozs, which is pretty impressive given Jamie Lynn's petite frame! Both mother and baby are said to be doing well.
Here's hoping little Maddie (who is the first granddaughter for grandparents Jamie and Lynn Spears and will no doubt be adored her her Spears cousins Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James 1) signifies the start of healthier and happier times for the entire Spears clan.
Goodness knows that family has been through enough head-shaving, umbrella waving, baby dropping, car smashing, crotch flashing times to last a lifetime!
Jamie Lynn's registry
Teens & tweens, Celeb Kids, Celeb Parenting
Shortly after Jamie Lynn Spears was spotted in a Babies R Us store, PEOPLE magazine found what they believe to be the online registry of the teen Nickelodeon star. It's difficult not to be struck by the difference between this one and Jennifer Lopez's wish list at Petit Tresor.
There weren't any cashmere sweater sets or faux mink blankets on Jamie Lynn's' registry, just ordinary baby necessities: bottles, a convertible car seat, teethers, outlet covers,a breast pump. The petite sixteen-year-old also registered for Winnie the Pooh flannel receiving blankets, Sesame Street bibs, and a Cookie Monster bath towel.
My heart goes out to Jamie Lynn. Not only is she faced with the challenges and emotional turmoil of becoming a mother at such a young age, she's doing it while her parents are occupied with her older sister's mental/emotional/drug/whatever problems, and seems to be left on her own quite a bit.
Perhaps she's really independent and wants space from her mother, but I found pictures of Jamie Lynn going to Babies R Us with a girlfriend instead of her mom really sad.
After all, she's not all that far from the Winnie-the-Pooh years herself.
Jamie Lynn engaged?
According to People magazine, Jamie Lynn Spears is now sporting an engagement ring along with her baby bump. The Zoey 101 star is said to have been flashing a diamond ring from eighteen-year-old boyfriend Casey Aldridge to friends and family.
Jamie Lynn sparked new discussions on teen pregnancies when the sixteen-year-old announced her pregnancy earlier this year.
Marriage has proved to be challenging for the Spears family. Jamie Lynn's parents are divorced and her sister has been divorced twice if you count the Las Vegas annulment. I'm not sure getting married just because you are pregnant is the best choice for a sixteen year old.
What do you think: true love or bad idea?
A boy for Jamie Lynn?
Bump Watch, Celeb Kids, Life & Style, Celeb Parenting, Rumors
If Jamie Lynn Spears' purchases at recent shopping trip to Petit Tresor, favored boutique of celebrity parents were for herself, it looks like Jayden James and Sean Preston are getting a boy cousin.
The Zoey 101 star bought light blue items that big sister Britney claimed were for her sons, but it seems unlikely the 1 and 2 year olds would have a need for infant blankets or teeny pajamas.
This is the part of being a celebrity I don't understand. They have to know every single purchase is going to be scrutinized and blabbed about AND they are rich.
Why not just freak out the tabloids (and make them lose all credibility) by buying a stroller for 6, multiple cribs, car seats, clothing of all the wrong sex and then quietly donate it all to a charity or child care organization? If I was a celebrity being followed and spied on, I'd at least have fun with it! (I'd keep the pregnancy quiet and encourage the "She's gotten so fat!" stories by working with Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers, but that's just me.)
Jamie Lynn due in a couple of months?
Teens & tweens, Bump Watch, Celeb Kids, Rumors
The National Enquirer reported back in July that Jamie Lynn Spears was pregnant recently printed the letter they received from her attorneys which seems laughable in light of recent events:
"Ms. Spears is a devout Christian with a spotless reputation, who lives in accordance with the highest moral and ethical standards in accordance with her faith. There is no "rumor" concerning Ms. Spears' (non-existent) pregnancy, except perhaps for the baseless "rumor" just now being created by the National Enquirer. Ms. Spears is not pregnant. It is pathetic for the National Enquirer to attempt to create a wholly baseless "rumor" that Ms. Spears is pregnant, so it can run a malicious story and false story which would be emotionally devastating to a morally upright 16 year old girl."
So when the same rag stands by its story and says Jamie Lynn is actually due in March with a girl, you pay closer attention and wonder how the world someone so tiny could possibly conceal a pregnancy longer than fifteen minutes and expect to fudge a birthdate by that much.
There are also rumors circulating that the father of the baby isn't Jamie Lynn's 19 year-old boyfriend, Casey Aldridge, but an older man who was a producer of Spear's television show, which is disturbing on so many levels.
An accidental pregnancy between a couple of hormonal and love-struck teens is one thing, but an older man taking advantage of a young girl is disturbing and wrong.
For some reason, nothing is ever simple and straightforward in the Spears family.
Nickelodeon may air teen pregnancy special
Pregnancy & Birth, Bump Watch, Celeb Kids, Rumors, In The News, That's Entertainment
In light of the Jamie Lynn Spears' pregnancy announcement, the children's network Nickelodeon (home of Spear's popular Zoey 101 show) is said to be talking with Linda Ellerbee about a special program on teenage sex and love.
Ellerbee is a veteran newswoman who has lead shows for the network in the past talking to children about difficult issues in the news. She's done shows about same-sex parents, AIDS, the Columbine shooting, President Clinton's impeachment scandal, and terrorism.
"I think it's important that something be done," Ellerbee told The Associated Press on Thursday. "But I think it's important that it be done in a measured way, and not just to feed the beast of news stories.
I love Linde Ellerbee and have watched many of her children's special topic shows in that past. I'm certain she'll do a great job with this sensitive topic, that like it or not, children of all ages are already talking about.
Jamie Lynn Spears has not ruined her life
Just For Moms, Teens & tweens, Pregnancy & Birth, Celeb Kids
I cringe at that last part. Ruined her life. I heard that too when I got pregnant at sixteen. I heard it from my devastated parents, my scornful teachers and my freaked-out friends. I was lucky enough not to have to hear it from strangers on television and the Internet.
A sixteen year old cannot even begin to fathom what being a parent involves. At that age, forever is an impossible concept to grasp. But fortunately, forever happens one day at a time. It is hard, but it doesn't have to be bad. I was lucky that my family and friends came around and were supportive of me and my child. They gave me the strength and the desire to prove that I could do it. And with their help, I did.
Jamie Lynn's career is likely ruined, but her life isn't. She's going to be a mother and regardless of what goes on around her, she is going to have to find it in herself to make it right. That's a tall order for a sixteen-year-old who clearly doesn't have the most solid family to lean on. But it can be done and for the sake of that unborn child, I am pulling for Jamie Lynn.
Having babies out of wedlock: the new celeb parenting trend?
Just For Moms, Just For Dads, Fun & Activities, Celeb Kids, Celeb Parenting

Pop Sugar has a poll up this week asking us if we'd have a child out of wedlock. The topic in question is based on the recent news that both Jamie Lynn Spears and British singer Lily Allen are planning to have kids--gasp!--without being married.
In the not so distant past footballer Tom Brady and one-time love Bridget Moynahan decided not to tie the knot; she gave birth to their son right after they broke up. Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams lived together, bought a brownstone together (the ultimate for we Brooklynites in commitment) had a baby together, and then broke up. And let's not even get started on Brad and Angie. They have four kids between them, hope for more and are not interested in tying the knot until laws are changed allowing anyone who wants to get married to do so.
Does America love or hate the fact that celebs--or anyone, for that matter--are having kids without being married? well, not that Pop Sugar has all the answers, but you'll have to vote to hear what others on the site think. What do you think?
I have to say I'm a modern gal and that I think a child in the world is a beautiful thing not dependent on having the traditional mom and dad married with children scenario. There are plenty of good parents out there, celebrity and otherwise, who are not married or who are single parents.
I am married to my baby daddy so I can't really speculate on what it's like to not be married to the father of my child or what it's like to be a single parent, but it seems to me that so long as a child is loved by whomever is involved in the child's life that's what matters most.
Would it be nice if they were married? Perhaps. But just because they get married doesn't mean they'll STAY married, and having a child between them is no guarantee the union will last either. Again, from speculation only, it seems like divorce might be harder on everyone than just keeping things how they are.
I have witnessed many a divorce and all I can say is that it's tough on the parents and even tougher on the kids.

Eminem's mom writes a book; Lynn Spears' postponed
Life & Style, Celeb Parenting, Rumors, Behaving Badly, Playground Bureau
Marshall Mather's mom is fed up and she's not taking it anymore. The rapper known as "Eminem" cannot be happy about his mother's tell-all book, due out in 2008.
In the publication, good ol' Mominem finally spills the beans on Mather's background, and like rapper Vanilla Ice, it is a lot less ghetto than the public was lead to believe.
"After his first album, Infinite, flopped, he reinvented himself as white trailer trash with a crazy welfare mom. I was shocked when I first heard the lyrics... but he constantly reassured me it was all a big joke... I went along with it for Marshall's sake." say Debbie Nelson.
However, after years of being treated poorly her son's fans, Debbie Nelson has had enough. "This book is my way of setting the record straight," she explains.
In other celebrity mom literature news, the day after sixteen year old Jamie Lynn Spear's surprise pregnancy was announced, her mother's book Pop Culture Mom: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World , which was due out on Mother's Day has been put on hold by its Christian publishing house.
Perhaps they just needed time to change the title to: Pop-Tart Mom: A Story of Fame and a Tabloid Family in the Real World?
