Heidi Klum and Seal Renew Their Vows Annually

Just For Moms, Just For Dads, Love & Sex

Ridiculously in love super-couple Heidi Klum and Seal make getting married an annual tradition. The couple first said their vows in 2005 and now renew them each year on their anniversary. "We love it," Seal says, "It's great saying your vows again. You remember who it is you fell in love with. It's also a good excuse to have a big party."

I love the idea of revisiting your vows every year. It's a romantic way to bring back those newlywed feelings, and a great reminder of the commitment you made to each other. But an actual wedding every year? It might be fun for the bride and groom, but I wonder if their friends will find it tiresome? Heidi Klum and Seal are notorious for their high-level romance, though, so maybe their friends are used to it. They're obviously doing something right.

Most of us can't afford a swanky re-wedding every year to keep the fire burning, but romance is an important part of any relationship. How do you stay connected to your spouse or partner, even when your busy life and parenthood leave little time for it?

Does Kate Moss want more kids?

Love & Sex, Pregnancy & Birth, Money & Work, Siblings, Bump Watch, Life & Style, Celeb Parenting, Rumors, That's Entertainment, Single parenting

Kate Moss has been known for a lot of things. In the eighties she was the face of the Calvin Klein fragrance Obsession. She was a supermodel. She was constantly embattled over her (lack of) weight. Then she had a child, and normalcy returned, until she was constantly in the spotlight for drugs and alleged partying ways.

In fact, rumor had it that Kate split from her most recent boyfriend, rocker Jamie Hince, because of her lifestyle. Not so, insists a source, who claims the real reason the couple split is that Moss was ready to become a mom again. According to the source the supermodel was keen to add to her family, which already consists of five-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.

So maybe Kate really is like the rest of us? She wanted a commitment, couldn't get one from the guy--he wanted to focus on his band--and perhaps she felt the clock ticking. Or not. I mean, this woman carries handbags that are worth more than my rent. But hey, you gotta feel for a woman who, if it's true, puts her family (and her biological needs) first. Good luck, Kate!

Kate's no stranger to the camera. Perhaps if she succeeds in becoming a mom again, she can join the ranks of these pregnant cover girls:

The economics of love

Just For Moms, Just For Dads, Love & Sex, Money & Work, Fun & Activities, Weird But True, That's Entertainment, Resources

Actor, comedian and some-time eyedrop commercial maker Ben Stein, who once offered America the chance to win his money, has written a funny and telling article over at the New York Times. Most of us know by now the man who is most famous for asking over and over again, "Bueller?" is an economics genius, but did you hear what he has to say about love? Well, according to Mr. Stein, there is an economics to love, too.

Take for example what he says about junk bonds: "High-quality bonds consistently yield more return than junk, and so it is with high-quality love." I think we can all agree we've had that junk bond love experience and Ben perhaps knows what he's talking about. They're great for the short term, but they won't--and don't--last. Stein likens this to dating someone with a ton of problems and thinking you can change that person. Of course, he also notes that it's impossible to do that unless you control the market.

Stein also said something that is sure to stick, at least with me. That is that one should "fall in love in haste and depart at leisure." This means that once you've found a winner, whether in love or in a stock, that you stick with it. Commitment is everything, as is nurturing. This is true of love of and for adults, but I would bet the same is true of parenting. Fall in love with your spouse, fall in love with your children, and do everything you can to stay in love with them. Good advice? I'd say so--and take that payout to the bank.

Young girls getting highlights

Just For Moms, Kids 5-7, Kids 8-11, Teens & tweens, Fun & Activities, Places To Go, Health & Safety, Development, Celeb Kids, Life & Style, In The News, Mommy Wars, Media, Education, Kid Decor & Style, Mommy Musts

It seems to be all the rage these days: talk of teens, and tweens, and their primping. When is it too soon? When is it too much? I remember getting my ears pierced at a relatively young age--I think I was in the second grade--but makeup? Well, even though my mother and grandmother generously indulged in that, I wasn't allowed until I was much, much older.

These days, as you can tell just by walking down the street, watching Nickelodeon--Miley Cyrus, anyone?--or hitting the local mall or salon, beauty is not just for adults anymore. And primping isn't just about beauty anymore, either--it's about pampering. I don't know when pampering ourselves became such a pursuit, but it is, at least with many of the women--and their daughters--I know.

A recent article in the New York Times probes this phenomenon. Girls want to be like their moms and the women they know. They want to go to salons, too. They want to get highlights and whatever else done to their hair as well as having their toes painted and their colors done. One girl's mother interviewed for the article commented that her daughter works hard and gets good grades. Her mother contends, because of that, she deserves a trip to the salon--to get her hair highlighted, to be pampered.

The Love List

Love & Sex, Alcohol & Drugs, That's Entertainment

It's not often that I'm able to catch Oprah. (Shocking I know! A SAHM doesn't watch Oprah and eat bonbons every day at 4 pm?) But sometimes nap schedules align and I get a moment to find out what's happening at Harpo Studios.

Wednesday's show was about how changing your thinking could change your life. Martha Beck was on the show discussing Alice Gorman's article in O Magazine called "The Love List".

I have to tell you that I believe in the Love List concept, because it worked for me. About 12 years ago, I sat in a cafe with a girlfriend and wrote down a list of what I wanted in a longterm partner on the back of a business card. I kept that card in my wallet for years, forgetting about it, but taking it out every now and again to remind myself of what I wanted. Eventually, tired of dating what I called "One-Date Wonders," I made a resolution to stop dating and focus on myself. Then, two years later, I sat next to my friend Jan Anthony Silverthorne on a college bus trip and my resolution was axed. I had met my soulmate. In fact, he was right in front of me all that time.

The thing that got me through the years of dating losers (and the years of dating no one!) was a shirt I had with the slogan: If you want to find a needle in a haystack, go out, have fun, and it will find you. I believe that you need to spend each day living your life the best you can. Eventually that attitude will draw out the things that your heart truly desires.

If you're interested, I recommend reading Martha Beck's article on the subject. The key to the success of these lists, in Beck's words, "depends on the level of awareness from which you write it."

So what about you? Have your lists magically come true? Do you use lists to establish life goals? Or is it all just hokey garbage?

Scott Baio is 45 and pregnant

Bump Watch, Celeb Kids, Celeb Parenting

Well, he isn't pregnant, but his girlfriend Renee is. If you watched the finale of his reality show, Scott Baio Is 45 ... and Single, then you already knew that. The show, which aired on VH1, followed the former Happy Days star through an eight-week session with a life-coach who tried to help him overcome his commitment issues. He revisited many of his former flames and squirmed as they dogged him and the way he treated them. Right off the bat an interesting fact emerged - his first sexual experience was with Erin Moran. I guess Joanie really did love Chachi.

My husband and I watched the entire run of the show and we both found it interesting. Baio often comes off as a rather cold-hearted womanizer, but you get the impression that is an image he has carefully constructed for himself. Underneath it all, he's just a guy who wants to love and be loved. If he could just get that giant chip off his shoulder.

At the end of the first season, he decides he is ready to commit and at the same time, finds out his girl is pregnant. The show has been renewed for another season, so stay tuned to find out if he really is through with looking for the next best thing. Or if he will break the heart of yet another girl.

No-fee adoption agency in Washington State

Adoption

Can this really be true? An adoption agency that doesn't charge any fees?

I couldn't believe it either, but apparently this is for real. Antioch Adoptions is a non-profit adoption agency that operates under the umbrella of the Antioch Bible Church out of Redmond, Washington. According to its website, the agency raises money through donations to help it place children, mostly through foster care.

The only "catch" is that adoptive families must commit to giving back to the ministry through donations of their "time, talents, and financial resources." After reading some of their documentation of what is required from adoptive families, their program may not be for everyone--they require that families must attend one weekend retreat, among other things. However, the best way to find out about the program is to read through the material, where then you can make up your own mind.
